What equipment is most commonly used in steam pipelines?

What is the purpose of a steam trap?

The steam trap removes condensate and air from the system, reducing the escape of live steam. It is a critical component for efficiency and safety.

Which type of steam trap should I choose?

It varies depending on the application: criteria such as line drainage, heat exchanger, tank, line pressure, and flow rate determine the choice. For the correct selection, the operating pressure/temperature and intended use must be clearly defined.

Why are strainers essential in a steam line?

Corrosion, burrs, and sediment damage steam traps and valves. Strainers protect the equipment by trapping these particles.

What is the purpose of a pressure reducer (PRV)?

It reduces the inlet pressure of the steam or fluid to the desired outlet pressure for the line and helps maintain it at that level.

What is the difference between a flow control valve and an on/off valve?

An on/off valve simply opens and closes. A flow control valve, on the other hand, provides flow rate/pressure control by adjusting the flow in stages.

Why are globe valves frequently used in steam lines?

Globe valves can manage flow more controllably and are frequently preferred in steam applications. (However, the choice depends on the application conditions.)

What causes water hammer and how can it be reduced?

Even condensate buildup, sudden valve movements, and incorrect slope/pipe design can trigger water hammer. This is reduced with the correct steam trap selection, drainage points, and proper installation.

What information is needed when selecting steam pipeline equipment?

The following information is required: working pressure (bar), temperature, pipe diameter (DN), fluid type, intended use (line drainage/heat exchanger, etc.), and connection type (flanged/threaded).
